H. Potter & JKR

Hi.
My name is Jen.
And I am not a Harry Potter fan.
It's not because it's pandemic.
It's not because I'm not included.
It's because I simply am not a fan of that genre. Wizards and fairies and all that are just not my thing.
What I am a fan of is the enthusiasm.
The fervor.
Strangers gathering and interacting out of a single commonality.

A book.

I don't give a rip if it was engineered as a publicity stunt, or a marketing ploy.
It's still a book.
And people are clamoring, world-wide, for it.

To read.

The by-product is the opposite of road rage, opposite of most crap we see and hear on the news.
That of people getting along, not doing unspeakably horrible things to each other, not scamming or plotting.
Just chilling in the excitement of a...
...book.

On the other side of this, also rather impressive, is that imagine you were JK Rowling.
Banged out a book while on the dole, and well, the rest is history.
As a writer, from what I am able to muster in my imagination, is that to be able to maintain interest in your work is a big deal. Insecurities and fears in that your first book (if you get that far) is the proverbial 'shot your wad' surely run rampant. And many come to fruition.

But to be able to propel the momentum is quite another.
Success stories are so nice to hear, aren't they?
On some level they give us hope. Well, it gives me hope, with all that misanthropy I got going on over here.

Good.
For.
Her.

The rest of ya....if you're into the wizardry dealio, enjoy every minute of it. The reading of it, the talking about it, the theories, the hoohoo.
Have at it, and just fucking have fun.

I read the first one, it was OK, but not amazing - it certainly didn't leave me hungry for more, so I'd not bothered with the sequels.

I'm awaiting the third one to show up at the library. From what I was told in the deal making, is that there is a progression from the youth oriented lightness, to darker, more involved.
In any event, I did like the first two, a lot. (I think knowing that they'll get 'better' adds to that.)
